According to Police Chief Joey Hoover, at approximately 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, a juvenile male was taken into custody by MPD Lt. Josh Asberry and charged with breaking into Reed’s Bait and Grocery late Friday night. Charges filed include Burglary 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.
Following an interview and processing of paperwork, the juvenile was released to his mother pending an initial appearance in Wayne Juvenile Court. Hoover said, “The burglary at Reeds occurred around 11:12 Friday night and store security video showed one perpetrator entering the store after smashing the glass out of a front door with a hammer.
The burglar was wearing a hooded jacket, blue in color, with reflective type stripes across the upper chest, a dark colored mask, sweatpants with a stripe down each pant leg, dark colored gloves and white tennis shoes.”
The public’s assistance was greatly appreciated with the investigation. Anyone with information on any type of crime may call or text the Monticello Police Department’s Crime Tip-Line at 606-688-7676 (688-POPO). You will remain anonymous. All that’s needed is your information, not your name.
